The Meaning of "CALANTHE"
"Calanthe Masuca" -In 1853, Mr John Dominy Produced the first manmade orchid hybrid in the world. This first orchid hybrid by man was flowered at veitch nursary in 1856. The plant was named after Mr John Dominy as Calanthe Dominy(A hybrid between Calanthe furcate and Calanthe masuca).
Meaning of calanthe
-Genus Calanthe was the first human effort which success in hybridisation of two orchid species. Therefore, Calanthe symbolic to us as the combination of few persons' effort and expertise and it shall produce successful result.
-Calanthe in chinese"迦南地"means canaan in Bible, Old Testament which was a promised land from God for his children. A place flowing with milk & honey. A place for rest, but in order to reach the place, God children need to go through many trial and difficulties. He requires his children to make covenant and obey his commandments.
